Okay we are confessing that at night we sit silently just
clicking and sighing for hours other than an interlude for maybe drinks and
snacks or to comment on a picture ……. We are pinning.
If you don’t know or have never heard of Pinterest ask me for an invite as its
members only (get us) and you literally download a pin button on to your
browser bar and then any image you see on a site you can pin to your boards.
The boards can be like a mood board or maybe ideas for your
summer / spring wardrobe or how you see the remodelling of your bathroom or
kitchen.
It’s incredibly soothing and silent unlike Facebook – no privacy
issues – no adverts and you either like – comment or repin. All my US friends
are on this and I have found it to be around 99% female but I know that once it
gains a foothold in the UK it will grow.
I can see this having a huge impact for retailers as the
whole of the internet is a funnel and the consumer can pass through a number of
sites to look and read about your product – so they can see an advert online –
then they read a blog and then they see an image repined by someone on Pinterest…….
Jakob Nielsen's Law of the Web User Experience: “Users spend
most of their time on other sites” so if you have a minute why not start
pinning – we have been pinning the blogs and seen a big increase in traffic –
plus we noticed Boden doing some pinning which did prompt us to hit their site
and purchase a dress- most of the US companies are on plus brands like Martha
Stewart – it has a strong craft feel.
Just remember “a recommendation from a trusted friend
conveying a relevant message…is up to 50 times more likely to trigger a
purchase…” that is the Power of
Experiences and WOM (Word of Mouth)
